W2 Recap

Assignment for next week:

Light this specific scene using a directional light (sunlight). Use matte materials and assume they're under a blue sky. Use the half-way to black method to assign believable values. You may assign different local values to the ground, tower and other buildings.

Using that single direct light, light it in a way that will create an interesting value composition, using planes in shadow and cast shadows to compose. I suggest that you quickly sketch out the shadow values to test the lighting, before refining. Try to bring attention to the tower in the center, use that as your focal point.

Additionally, add the following:
(Download my demo PSD here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_nIzCV8vwsGUXFleGNMWmtPU2M)
- Some point lights (Christmas lights in my demo)
- Add one spotlight
- Add one fill light (the big neon billboard in my demo)
- Add occlusion shadows
- Add reflected lights
Make sure your additional lights don't overpower the main light and distract your composition.

Optional: you may alter some of the geometry if you want to challenge yourself. Make sure that your new construction is physically sound and make sure that the shadows are following the form.

I made two major mistakes here, can you find them?

1 comment:

  1. 1- The bevel on left side and the right side of the roof are not the same.
2- There is a perspective issue inside the window
